Chomping at the silicon tit

…in other words, having failed to provide any viable culture itself, the internet falls back on cannibalizing the niche interests and cultural eccentricities of our ancestors. Reminiscent of an Onion headline about the retro fashion panic “We are running out of past”. When we’re out of ruined cities and abandoned towns to photograph, hopefully we’ll have some nature left. As it sits, however fun, the internet provides nothing but a shared awareness of our own unoriginal content. Awareness cannot flourish in a state of constant voyeurism. Without awareness there is no true Art. Without art, the human species is relegated to apes with increasingly deadly weapons.

To wit, the internet, however useful, is still Ellison’s “Glass Teat” augmented with silicon. Go forth and smother yourself in the quaint historic friezes tattooed on her cleavage.
