LEDs for the supposedly unloved Pittsburgh International Airport.
According to a press release, the LED lighting system will consume an estimated 83 percent less energy and result in $158,754 in annual energy savings, with 2,118,438 kWh saved over the project’s lifetime.
Nice, but we are a capitalist society. Make the damned airport pay for its own lightbulbs. This is the part of the green initiative that has me suspicious. The ideas are good, but the state’s role is to mandate that private industry changes its methods as circumstances require. We don’t give them 800K to do it.
In other words, briefly stated, it’s almost definitely patronage. I’d lvoe to see the budget attached to this program.
